Labiaplasty & Vaginoplasty Myths I

Updated: Jul 6

First of all, I have been very busy attending congresses and participating in new research works which will be very stunning soon and I will share with all of you enthusiastically, and of course with my patients who chose to have labiaplasty and vaginoplasty operations recently. I will keep writing and sharing all my thoughts and experiences and details about how we come over our all struggles with women's health and its effects on our daily life.

For this purpose, I will not go deep to be understood easily and can give your a clue to understanding the matter first. Therefore, you can draw a picture in your mind with the borders of the topic, then can create your own thoughts about it.

There are lots of questions among my patients and they have some thoughts about Cosmetic Gynecology operations such as Labiaplasty and Vaginoplasty. I listed these most asked questions below and answered them in detail to try to enlighten the path for you.

Myth 1: Labiaplasty is a painful procedure, or not?

It is a surgical operation. We should face it, first. Also, pain word is a relative word, I meant that It depends on our feelings and some of us might not feel anything and some of us can feel more. But in this procedure, while there will be some discomfort following any surgery, labiaplasty is not very painful.

Given that it affects such a sensitive area of the body, this may seem counterintuitive.

Painkillers are a simple and effective way to manage the minor amount of transient postoperative pain that does occur. That might not push you to be afraid about the operation. Yes, It is an operation and you will feel discomfort, but It is not a very painful one, and after being cared for a couple of days, then you can feel your daily routine easily.

Myth 2: Labiaplasty is only done to improve aesthetic appearance, or not?

There are lots of reasons to have this operation, actually. Some individuals might believe that labiaplasty is merely performed to enhance attractiveness. There are also some useful justifications for the procedure, though. On the other hand, for some women, having extremely long labia affects their daily life quality and can be very uncomfortable, especially while others do and they cannot. We can consider many different daily routines such as riding a bicycle, wearing swimsuits, wearing tight pants while running, or even walking may discomfort you with appearance and feeling hurt too.

Myth 3: The level of sexual stimulation will decrease, or not?

It comes from feeling levels that may decrease or not. Many patients worry that after labiaplasty, they would have decreased sexual excitement and feeling. You can relax knowing that the process won't affect your sensitivity. It is not related to the exact area that stimulates your feelings. The primary nerve endings involved in sexual feelings are elsewhere. That means the labiaplasty zone is out of where that your consideration.

Myth 4: Recovery after labiaplasty takes a long time, or not?

Although you should refrain from intimate activities for a few weeks, the recovery period is not as long as some people think it is - it just takes a few weeks. I have many patients who had this operation with me, let's say more than a hundred, and very few of them had this struggle. There are no catheters needed, and the pain you experience while recovering is minimal. Plus, this is a period in which you shall care for yourself in the first person. After then I can care for and treat the rest. I can say that most of my patients passed this period easily and in a quick phase that did not affect their considerations.

MYTH 5: Only Women Who Have Had Children Can Have Labiaplasty, or not?

I heard about this matter in recent months. Let's make it clear. Labiaplasty is a technique that can help a variety of ladies, which is something we certainly can't emphasize enough. Aside from childbearing and heredity, extra skin on the labia can also result from aging or other factors. For understanding easily, there are lots of reasons to have this operation. It is about labia and labia is a part of the vagina. After having grown up with extra labia skin, young women frequently visit my office looking for a means to ease physical discomfort and achieve a good body image. And most of them do have no children. I have had many operations and If I should estimate a ratio about this matter, I can estimate around 40% of the ladies I've treated for labiaplasty have never had children; this indicates that younger women are more concerned with their appearance and the quality of their everyday lives than their more experienced counterparts.

Do not Forget! You are not alone, I am here to support you.
